Vontaze Burfict’s Free-Fall Continues

Today Vontaze Burfict had a chance to stop his free-fall at the Arizona State University Proday, but instead just plummeted down draft boards further.   Burfict started out by registering less than 20 reps on the bench press which is bad for a man his size playing linebacker. Then he looked slow and out of shape in the positional drills.

He was not smooth changing direction, dropped passes in drills and generally looked like a free agent compared to the first-round pick most predicted just six months ago. Several scouts said they felt bad for Burfict, who’ll have another chance to redeem himself on March 30.

Burfict was once considered on par with Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis as prospects, but no there are many people suggesting that he looks like an un-drafted free agent and not even a first round pick. It’s likely he doesn’t get drafted until day three. Maybe a priority free agent.

Burfict hasn’t just looked bad on the field either. He’s come off very poorly in interviews often placing the blame for his problems on coaches or referees.

It’s one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. At the combine Burfict says I’m the best linebacker in the class, then he runs slower than some  offensive linemen, a lot of defensive linemen, and nearly every tight end. He can’t catch passes at his Pro-day. In college he continuously got flagged for dumb penalties and eventually was benched near the end of the season.

It’s been a terrible fall for this once lauded prospect.
