Buffalo Bills 2015 NFL Draft Preview

Teams are putting the finishing touches on their preparation as the 2015 NFL Draft is nearly here.

To preview the draft for the Buffalo Bills, I got together with Dennis Amo of BuffaLowDown. Below are my questions followed by his answers.

1. What are the team’s biggest needs heading into the draft and how might they address them?

"The Buffalo Bills had a very good free agent offseason. Their draft needs are not as big as they have been in the past. Looking to fill holes for depth and planning for the future are the biggest issues at this point for them, besides a quarterback. I think that they will look at filling an offensive lineman and a defensive interior lineman with their first two picks for the draft. This would leave a safety, and a depth TE for the later rounds with a possible quarterback selection as well in the 5th or 6th round."

  • 2. What needs to happen for this draft to be considered a success?

"The offseason has been a success so far. As long as they don’t reach too much to get a player that could be drafted in a later round, and as long as they fill depth needs, the draft will be considered a success. If they decide to draft a wide receiver in the 2 round at number 50 then, they might as well through the rest of the draft out the window. At that point, failure would be written all over the Bills as far as a draft is concerned."

    3. What in your mind would make this draft a failure?

"If the Buffalo Bills go out of their way to draft a player that they don’t need, even for a depth perspective, it will not fill a need and at that point I would classify the draft as a failure. In no way do the Buffalo Bills need a wide receiver with Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods on the team as well as the Bills also going out to get Percy Harvin in the offseason. This would also apply at the running back spot."

    4. What is a bold prediction for your team this draft?

"A bold prediction for the Buffalo Bills would be them trading up into the first round in some way to grab the top tight end in the draft or even make a run at one of the top tier quarterbacks. For them to move up into the top ten and have a shot at Marcus Mariota, there needs to be a similar draft day trade that Mike Ditka did with the Saints to get Ricky Williams."

    5. What is a draft angle the general public might not be aware of for your team?

"I really don’t think that there is a draft angle that is not already been looked at by the Buffalo Bills fans. Buffalo is really drafting for depth needs, unless they go against Rex Ryan’s strengths, which would be on the defensive side of the ball, and go and draft a quarterback, which he has not had a lot of success with. Look for the Bills to address offensive line, defensive line, LB, S and TE in the draft."
