New York Jets 2015 NFL Draft Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

Teams are putting the finishing touches on their preparation as the 2015 NFL Draft is nearly here.

To preview the draft for the New York Jets, I got together with Alan Schechter of The Jet Press. Below are my questions followed by his answers.

1. What are the team’s biggest needs heading into the draft and how might they address them?

"Biggest needs: edge pass rusher, offensive line, wide receiver, developmental QB. The Jets have hosted all of the major pass rush prospects for visits, look for them to go there early, with a Vic Beasley or Dante Fowler type. If not available, they may look at wide receiver here. I will be surprised if they haven’t chosen a pass rusher in the first two days. Over the weekend they will hit the other needs."

  • 2. What needs to happen for this draft to be considered a success?

"The Jets must come out of this draft with an impact pass rusher and someone that can play offensive guard. The rest is extra. It’s a deep WR class so they should be able to pull one as well, and maybe make good on one of the mid-level quarterbacks."

    3. What in your mind would make this draft a failure?

"Missing out on an edge pass rusher would kill this draft. It would be difficult to be happy about Mike Maccagnan’s performance without one."

    4. What is a bold prediction for your team this draft?

"Bold prediction: There is no way the Jets trade for either Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston. Second bold prediction is that they leave Amari Cooper and/or Kevin White on the board to draft a pass rusher."

    5. What is a draft angle the general public might not be aware of for your team?

"Keep an eye on RB Kevin Monangai from Villanova. He is an under the radar prospect that the Jets have had in for a visit, and they are very high on him."
