Many in NFL world think the running back position has been devalued but that isn’t the case. All you heard about until this past draft is how there hasn’t been one picked in the first round since 2012. But you see that difference between the Minnesota Vikings with and without Adrian Peterson.

It’s pretty easy to see Marshawn Lynch’s value as he brought Seattle their first championship. He would have brought his Seattle Seahawks two of them if they gave him the ball one more time. Lynch and Peterson are first-round picks and they’ve done what first-round running backs do.

The problem is there haven’t been any athletes like Lynch and Peterson available in the draft. The special athletes that are 6’0″ to 6’3″, 200 to 230 pounds, aren’t playing running back anymore. The big, strong, fast guys that have the ability to make you miss are playing receiver now.

But there was one such athlete in the draft and yes, he plays the running back position. Todd Gurley is so special, he tore his ACL last season and he was still selected in the first round. He’s that Lynch and Peterson type and with what the St. Louis Rams have now, he will take them from the NFC West cellar to the playoffs.
