To bolster their offensive line, the New Orleans Saints selected tackle Andrus Peat No.13 overall. And when they first saw him up close, the Saints were impressed with his size and athleticism. Payton told New Orleans Saints.com, “You see it on film, you see it in workouts and then when he’s actually here, you see his size and you see his athleticism and it’s pretty impressive.”

But with Zach Strief and Terron Armstead and left and right tackle it’s unclear where Peat will play. Saints writer Joel A. Erickson tweeted a quote of Strief saying, “He’s taking my job eventually. … My job and my role is to make that take as long as possible,”

Strief played well last year but the 31-year-old knows that father time is undefeated. Meanwhile, Armstead is going into his third year and many are picking him to be the Saints’ breakout player. Strief played at higher level but is older and has better size to play guard than Armstead.

Head coach Sean Payton hasn’t said which one but has maintained all offseason that Peat will play tackle. He said early in the Saints’ offseason program “He’s taking reps at right and left. Predominately, we’ve worked him at the right tackle position, but he’s got the skill set to play either. He played left tackle in college.”

Does Payton do an about-face and put Peat at guard?

Does Strief, who’s never played guard before, make the switch?

Or does Armstead, who would really need to put on some weight, kick inside?

I guess all we really know is that center Max Unger and guard Jahari Evans will make up the rest of the o-line.

Stay tuned!
