Alabama running back Derrick Henry has already collected three college football postseason awards. And if all goes according to how most believe in will, win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. Nevermind that he’s 6’3″, 345, runs a 4.45 40, has great vision and hard to get on the ground.
Nevermind the possibility that he’ll go over 2,000 yards in his first few carries in his next game. Nevermind the fact that he has put his team on his back and took him to the college semi-finals. He just might carry his Alabama team all the way to the National Championship game and win it.
Yet Former NFL scout Dan Hatman told The Florida Times-Union the Alabama junior looks like a 4th-round pick. He’s a former scout so he doesn’t have the agenda of making him fall to where his team can get him. Either he is a former, not current scout for a reason or it’s time to look at some more tape.
Hatman told the NFL media, “I think in the Nos. 100-150 range — basically the fourth round. I’m a little biased because I don’t value running backs highly. There are too many guys who have been drafted in the sixth round or later—or not drafted at all—and been functional.”
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was drafted in the first round back in 2007. He has carried his team to two Super Bowls and have won both if he had one more carry in the last one. In that run, Lynch showed the value of a great running back and Henry looks like he has the traits to be one.
We’ll soon see!
