Barry Sanders Jr. obviously isn’t his father but he is a talented running back in his own right. He just never did get the opportunity to show the world what he could do while he was at Stanford. With 2015 Heisman Trophy finalist Christian McCaffrey there, he wasn’t going to get one.

So since the 2015 season ended, Sanders has been looking for a spot that he could shine. And the search has ended with the son of the former Detroit Lion and Hall of Fame running back settling on Oklahoma State, his father’s alma mater. Sanders still has to complete Stanford graduation requirements to make it happen but expects to do so this summer.

Sanders told The Oklahoman, “They’ve got my full commitment and I’m looking forward to being there come late June.”

And from the sounds of things, Daddy supports the decision.

Sanders said, “His message to me was to keep an open mind. I think that he would have wanted me to look at more schools. He definitely didn’t want me to make a decision without considering other options. What I told him was that this was something I’ve been thinking about for some time. I just knew this was the right decision and the right fit for a variety of different reasons. So when I kind of explained my reasons behind it, he was pretty comfortable with it and he’s just as excited as I am.”

And Oklahoma Sate, who didn’t have a consistent rushing attack in 2015, is also excited. They didn’t have a running back reach 600 yards last season, so the opportunity will be there for him in 2016. We just might find out that Sanders is a draft prospect himself that was stuck behind a phenom at Stanford.
