The 2016 offseason was filled with drama for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. As we know, he was trying to catch the first thing out of town at the beginning of the offseason. It got as far as Kaepernick talking to Denver Broncos GM John Elway but nothing came of it.

And from there, it was all silence for the 49ers’ 2011 2nd-round pick. But Thursday, Kaepernick would break that silence, speaking to reporters for the first time in six months. He addressed his trade request but wouldn’t go too far into all the madness his offseason.

He told reporters per ESPN, “We were looking at different opportunities. I don’t want to get into specifics of what happened, why things happened. At this point, everything is football. I’m a 49er. Once again, excited to work with Chip [Kelly] and this coaching staff.

“I was happy to get back on the field this week. Everything’s coming along and progressing as planned. At this point I can really start to get rolling. I’m excited to get back on the field, get healthy and be ready for this training camp.”

When asked about his status as the starter, he said, “They haven’t said anything about pecking order or anything like that,” he said. “All I’ve heard is Chip has told me it’s going to be a competition and to come in and be ready to compete. That’s going to be my mindset and I’m excited to do that.

“I’m ready to give this team everything I have. It was a great feeling to be out there this week. The fan support that I’ve gotten through everything and especially seeing people out, the support that I’ve gotten was amazing. It’s made me really excited to be out here and play.”

The drama is over!
