Notre Dame’s Mike McGlinchey is a reliable and experienced offensive line prospect.

Mike McGlinchey has spent his college career at right tackle and now is heading to the left side with Ronnie Stanley in the NFL. The two are different type of players with McGlinchey being more technically sound and Stanley more athletic.

The key to McGlinchey’s success is his balance and commitment to keeping a wide base. He features a solid build with long enough arms to keep defenders off his frame. His focus on gaining inside hand placement helps him control the action.

McGlinchey is a smart player who shows a lot of awareness. He has a feel for when to move off a double team and climb to the second level. McGlinchey also does a good job recognizing the most immediate pass rushing threat.

His overall pass protection is sound thanks to his ability to use angles and remain balanced. He avoids wasted motion by keeping his hands out in front of his body. McGlinchey has a natural bend which provides him with a strong anchor and ability to adjust to inside counter moves.

His technique needs to be sound because he lacks elite foot quickness. Some of the more explosive edge rushers in the NFL could give him problems from time to time.

McGlinchey needs to hit the weight room and get stronger. He doesn’t show the power needed to consistently generate a push in the running game. The fact he also doesn’t routinely roll his hips and deliver a strong punch also hurts his ability to create movement.

He also needs to really work on his focus as he struggled with false starts all season long. These are the type of penalties that can kill a drive and put him in the coach’s dog house.
