Stanford Cardinal Heisman Trophy candidate Christian McCaffrey is back!

He picked up right where he left off at the end of the 2015 season. His 2016 Heisman Trophy campaign got off on the right foot as the Stanford Cardinal beat the Kansas State Wildcats 26-13. McCaffrey ended up with 210 all-purpose yards with two TDs Friday night.

The two TDs came rushing along with his 126 yards on 22 carries. Along with that, he had seven catches for 40 yards, a kickoff return for 28 yards. But his biggest play was not one that counted on the statsheet for the night.

McCaffrey had a 97-yard punt return for a TD called back because a penalty wiped it out. Since the play was called back, McCaffrey had two punt returns for 16 yards on the night. If not for the penalty that would have been 307 all-purpose yards for the night.

However, 210 all-purpose yards is not a bad day at the office and a good start toward the Heisman. And yes, I do have McCaffrey as my favorite to win the award for college football’s best player. He just kills opposing teams in too many different ways.

Unfortunately, I only have him as my No. 4 running back coming out in the 2017 NFL Draft. McCaffey just isn’t big and physical enough to handle pass-blocking and short yardage runs. But I do have him going in the first round and helping a team out.

If the New England Patriots got him, he would be an NFL Rookie of the Year candidate!
