Ben Roethlisberger suffered an injury in Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins. Roethlisberger tore the meniscus in his left knee during the second quarter trying to escape a sack.

Late in the second quarter, Ben Roethlisberger injured his knee scrambling to get away from defenders. Roethlisberger exited the game due to the injury causing Landry Jones to fill in for one series. Despite the injury, Big Ben came back out in the second half finishing out the game.

It was later found out that Big Ben’s injury was a torn meniscus in his left knee. He will undergo surgery today. It is supposed to be a clean up surgery but they won’t know the full extent until they get in there. There is no immediate time table for Roethlisberger’s return from this injury.

The only thing that is definite is that he will sit out Sunday’s game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Instead of it being Brady vs Roethlisberger, it will be Landry Jones vs Brady. Jones will start in the place of Roethlisberger which will change the offensive plays of the  Steelers drastically.

Big Ben has a huge arm and can air out the ball. He is also a lot bigger then Jones making him capable of enduring hits. Jones doesn’t have the big play capabilities.

Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will have to dial back the play calls and create a whole new scheme for Jones on Sunday. The Steelers are accustom to missing Roethlisberger due to injury for small amounts of time throughout the season. Last season Roethlisberger sat out four games due to a knee injury and the Steelers still made the playoffs.

More from Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are resilient and head coach Mike Tomlin knows how to adjust the team when someone goes out with an injury. The Steelers are hoping to have Roethlisberger back in three weeks when they face off against the Baltimore Ravens. After the Patriots game the Steelers have a bye week giving Big Ben even more time to rest his knee.

More will be known about the extent of Big Ben’s injury after his surgery. Until then it is all up in the air how long he will be out. One thing is for sure though, the Steelers may lose on Sunday but they can’t be counted out for long. They know how to adjust and bounce back despite who goes out.
