The San Diego Chargers have found themselves a dominating presence in defensive end Joey Bosa.

Joey Bosa has not wasted anytime establishing himself as a dynamic force along the San Diego Chargers defensive line. He has already registered 4 sacks in just three games. Bosa is putting himself squarely in the race of rookie of the year.

His success has helped overshadow what was an ugly contract negotiation. The Chargers have to be kicking themselves for playing hardball which resulted in Bosa’s delay. This is a team that could’ve use him during the first few games of the year.

Moving forward the Chargers have found someone capable of consistently making game-changing plays. He’s someone the team can build around and be the face of the franchise once Philip Rivers moves on.

Bosa’s sack numbers are what will draw most of the attention. However, he has been equally as good against the running game. This is a two-way player capable of setting the edge against the run while making like miserable for the quarterback.

San Diego is putting together a solid defensive group featuring several young players. Fellow rookie, Jatavis Brown has surprised many while making his own case for rookie of the year.

Other young defenders on the roster include Denzel Perryman, Jason Verrett and Kyle Emanuel. They are maybe a cornerback and another pass rusher away from having one of the better defenses in the league.

However, the key to this defense will be Bosa who will demand extra attention and open things up for this teammates. It’ll be interesting to see how many sacks he finishes with this year. There’s a strong likelihood he tops the double-digit mark despite missing the first few games of the year.
