The Baltimore Ravens might have found their future passing rushing threat in rookie Matt Judon.

As a 5th round pick out of Grand Valley State, Matt Judon wasn’t exactly expected to step in and make an immediate contribution. However, he’s been forced into action due to injuries and ineffectiveness of others on the roster.

Judon has seen most of his action as a situational pass rusher. He has earned more playing time thanks to his production and obvious potential. In the past two games, Judon has registered 3 sacks.

His quick development is a great sign for the Ravens as they face tough roster decisions in the future. Terrelle Suggs is on the backend of his career and struggling with injuries. His running partner, Elvis Dumervil, is dealing with a foot injury that could keep him out for awhile.

More from With the First Pick

This all means more action and a chance to prove himself for the rookie. Judon’s production this year is obviously an immediate benefit but also helps big picture. Baltimore may not have to use an early-round draft pick in 2017 on a pass rusher if Judon continues to shine.

He would also be a part of a defense that is getting younger and faster. The Ravens have Timmy Jernigan, Brandon Williams and CJ Mosley already established as difference makers. They’d love to add Judon to that mix.

Baltimore could potentially still target a pass rusher early in the 2017 NFL Draft. Someone like Auburn’s Carl Lawson, Louisville’s Devonte Fields or Missouri’s Charles Harris would be a great fit.

Lastly, Judon is just the latest example of how well the Ravens decision makers navigate the NFL Draft process.
