2017 NFL Draft: Wisconsin Corey Clement Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
Wisconsin’s Corey Clement is an experienced and well-known running back prospect eligible for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Corey Clement is a twitched up athlete who quickly gets up field. He has the burst needed to press the hole and reach the second level of the defense. His overall speed also gives him home-run potential and big-play ability.
Clement also has a knack for making himself thin and working through traffic. He doesn’t feature great size, but runs with some power thanks to his low pad level and the fact he keeps his feet moving. His experience at Wisconsin has more than prepared him to work between the tackles.

However, his time at Wisconsin has mainly featured working behind a fullback. There aren’t many NFL teams that still use a fullback which will take time for Clement adjust. We’ve seen some running backs really struggle with this change. The most notably was Demarco Murray going from the Dallas Cowboys to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Clement also doesn’t have a ton of experience in pass protection. Wisconsin is a run-heavy team that works a lot of play action. However, Clement is a hard-nosed player who isn’t afraid to take on the pass rush.
His ability as a pass catcher is also unproven as he as just over 9 receptions over the past two seasons. This has been a common theme with Wisconsin running backs, but several such as Melvin Gordon have proven capable receivers in the NFL.
Overall, Clement’s speed and downhill running style gives him a good shot to succeed at the next level.
