Jared Goff Shows Progress He’s Made in New Orleans

In his second career start, Jared Goff makes progress be can’t hang with Drew Brees.

Los Angeles Rams running back Jared Goff took a big step forward in his second start. He didn’t look like a deer in headlights like he did in his first start against the Miami Dolphins. The 2016 No. 1 overall pick looked like he knew what was going on.

Goff made his pre-snap reads, and went through his progressions much quicker than last week. He started the game off very well, throwing a dime to Tavon Austin for a 24-yard touchdown pass.  Goff likely kept the ball because it was the first of his career.

When he had protection, he was confident, showing a good arm and accuracy. He put up 167 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Only the defense, usually the strength of the team, couldn’t hold down New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

The Saints got the lead and pinned their ears back to rush the Goff in the second half. And like most rookies, he was off when he rushed throws. In the second half, the Saints held Goff to just 47 yards and didn’t allow the Rams into the end-zone.

He finished the day 20-of-32 for 214 yards, three touchdowns, an interception and a fumble. The interception came on a throw he forced into coverage. On his second start, he was up and down as expected but showed why he’s the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

And most importantly, he showed progress!
