Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler has loads of talent but hasn’t put it all together. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan elevates the play of QBs. So would Cutler and the 49ers make a good match?

It has been known for a long time now that the Chicago Bears plan to move on from QB Jay Cutler. And according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they are now looking for a trade partner for him. As usual, the new league year starting March 9, brings this type of talk about.

Of course, teams want to get what they can for players they no longer have plans for.  From there, speculation starts about teams in need of certain position possibly wanting to trade for them. So in this matchmaker game, we now have Cutler going to the San Francisco 49ers.

It actually makes sense because HC Kyle Shanahan is a QB whisperer and Cutler has tremendous talent. You can put that together with fact that GM John Lynch played with him in Denver. And a few weeks ago, the let NBC’s Mike Florio know that he still thinks highly of Cutler.

"Lynch said, “I like Jay, he’s a friend of mine,” Lynch said during a radio interview in 2009. “He had some growing up to do, probably still has some growing up to do. But in saying that, I think the Broncos erred in letting him go.“This is a guy, in my mind, that’s a once-in-every-15-year-type talent. He’s got that kind of skill. I think he’ll grow into the other things. I sometimes think during this whole ordeal, they tried to paint him as a bad guy, but he’s not a bad guy at all. He’s got some growing up to do, but hopefully he learned something from this whole ordeal and offseason.”"

Most of the guaranteed money on Cutler’s contract has already been paid, so the Bears could cut him. He had is best year as a pro under Adam Gase, also a known QB whisperer. So a guy like Shanahan could take him to the next level.

But in a trade?

I would say it depends on what the Bears want.
