The Philadelphia Eagles were reportedly toying with the parting ways with their long-time left tackle Jason Peters. However, it now appears that he’ll be back with the team for at least another year.

Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles are bringing veteran left tackle Jason Peters back for another season. This isn’t a major shocker as losing Peters would’ve created a major hole along the Eagles offensive line.

Keeping Peters not only keeps an important piece in place, but also gives the Eagles more flexibility in the 2017 NFL Draft. They can now focus on using their picks to address more pressing needs. This includes upgrading the secondary and wide receiver positions.

However, Philadelphia needs to start planning for the eventual loss of Peters. The fact is he’s getting up there in age and becoming expensive. It would be wise for the team to consider using a mid-round pick on a high upside offensive tackle.

The 2017 NFL Draft doesn’t have a ton of great offensive tackle options, but there are several intriguing developmental picks. One of the more interesting players is Bucknell’s Julie’n Davenport.

He’s a small school guy who will need time to adjust to the quickness and talent in the NFL. However, Davenport is a good athlete who has the size and mobility needed to play left tackle in the NFL.

He also brings versatility with the possibility of playing both right tackle and guard. In fact, he has enough raw talent that he could see some action at guard in his rookie season.

Philadelphia would likely need to use a 3rd or 4th round pick in order to ensure they land Davenport’s services.
