The New England Patriots aren’t making it easy to trade for QB Jimmy Garoppolo. But the Cleveland Browns had to have  just found a way to make it work.

When you have a bad team that not many players want to go to, you’re way under the salary cap. And with the CBA the way it is, an NFL team cannot lawfully be too far under the cap. So the Cleveland Browns are making this situation work for them.

The endgame here is to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo, whom the New England Patriots are asking a lot for. So in a trade with the Houston Texans they’re taking and absorbing QB Brock Osweiler’s salary. But they’re also getting a second-round pick in the deal.

That second-round pick will help the Browns get Garoppolo in a trade. The Patriots have said all offseason that they want a lot, starting with a first-round pick for the backup QB. The trade with the Texans gives the Browns five second-round picks in the next two years.

The Browns will likely give up their 2017 No. 12 overall along with some of those  second-round picks.  And if Garoppolo is as good as he was in Tom Brady’s absence in 2016, the Browns can compete now. They acquired C J.C. Tretter and G Kevin Zeitler and extended G Joel Bitonio.

Ole reliable left OT Joe Thomas is still there too the Browns will have a great O-line. When all is said and done, Terrelle Pryor will be up back with 2013 first-round pick Corey Coleman at WR. RB Isaiah Crowell will be to take care of the running game, rounding out the offense.

TE Gary Barnidge will be a much bigger factor with Garoppolo in the fold. The defense should be solid too with a front-seven that features 2017 first round pick Myles Garrett. He’ll be coming off the opposite edge of 2016 second-round pick and fellow freak athlete Emmanuel Ogbah.

Jamie Collins will be at LB with Danny Shelton at NT and the secondary, especially Joe Haden, just needs to stay healthy.

The Browns are getting better!
