The Philadelphia Eagles took a chance on undrafted free agent Charles Walker but that experiment appears to be coming to an end.

Former Oklahoma defensive tackle, Charles Walker, was waived (injured reserve) by the Philadelphia Eagles. This development is just another in a long line of roadblocks for Walker’s NFL dream.

Walker got a lot of attention last year when he decided to leave the Oklahoma program to prepare for the draft. He was injured at the time, but many saw it as Walker quitting on his team. His decision was something many media outlets discussed.

Prior to his injury and leaving Oklahoma, Walker flashed 1st round ability. He has an excellent combination of quickness and size. If right, this is someone who could develop into a disruptive force.

His latest injury now sets him back even further. He will get future opportunities, but the more time he misses the smaller his window gets. Next year, there will be a new group of younger players ready to compete for a job.

The Philadelphia Eagles knew that signing Walker was a high risk-high reward move. However, they could’ve  used some depth at the defensive tackle position. Fletcher Cox is the only defensive tackle on the Eagles roster with pass rush ability.

Walker would’ve gave them a developmental prospect and someone capable of giving Cox some rest.

It’s possible that they now check the free agent market for a cheap replacement for Walker. However, they will have a hard time finding someone with Walker’s developmental upside.
