Josh Uche has elected to forgo his final year of eligibility at Michigan, with the pass rusher set to make the jump to the NFL.

Michigan Wolverines star outside linebacker/EDGE prospect Josh Uche has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Uche announced the news on Wednesday via his Twitter account.

He had one more year of eligibility, even though he was classified as an academic senior, according to Mlive. This was due to the new four-game redshirt rule that went into effect last season. Uche only played in four games as a true freshman, thus qualifying him for the additional redshirt year.

Uche has led the team in sacks in the past two seasons, racking up 7.5 in 2019 after finishing 2018 with 7. He said he will play in Michigan’s bowl game and has already accepted his Senior Bowl invite.

Uche wrote in his Twitter post:

"“My time here has been the best four years of my life. I have made memories and friendships that will last forever and learned more than I ever could have imagined. I am ready for the next challenge and a new chapter in football and in life.”“I want to thank Coach (Jim) Harbaugh, Coach (Don) Brown, and all my coaches for believing in a kid from Miami, Florida and giving me a chance to come to Michigan. Thank you for pushing me to be my very best in every way and for giving me a chance to be a Wolverine.”"

As an edge rusher, Uche is among the best in the country. He has experience as both a stand up outside linebacker and as a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end in defensive coordinator Don Brown’s scheme.

Still relatively inexperienced, Uche’s calling card will be his athleticism early on in his pro career until he refines his technique.
