Situation

I’m going to call Griffin III their franchise quarterback because the Redskins gave up darn-near the franchise for him. He was amazing as a rookie, making a Pro Bowl but since then, he’s been injured and inconsistent. A huge part of his injuries and inconsistencies is they have an offensive line that doesn’t protect him well.

But if they can get it together, Griffin will have time to throw to weapons like DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. And to run the Ball, Gruden prefers big, physical offensive lineman as he uses the power running game. But the Redskins have a bunch of soft, small, zone-scheme types and left tackle is the only reliable pass protector.

So Scherff is perfect pick because he translates as a right tackle plus he’s big and physical enough for the power running game. And the Redskins still have running back Alred Morris over there so giving him some holes to run through would be huge. And with Chris Culliver from free agency there to go with Preston Smith from the draft on the defense, the team could do something.
