Fit
Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is known to build his scheme around his players’ strengths. Note the vertical attack he put together with the Atlanta Falcons, having receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White with quarterback Matt Ryan. From 2008 to 2012, they had a power running game featuring running back Michael Turner to go with it.
Now, in Tampa Bay, they have running back Doug “Muscle Hamster” Martin to run the ball. And with that running back, the Buccaneers have two outside receivers that are major vertical threats. Veteran Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, coming off an outstanding rookie campaign in 2014, will be there.
So the identity of the Buccaneers will be power-running with the vertical attack on offense. And the big arm Winston has to get the ball down the field is a perfect fit for their system in Tampa Bay. So Winston goes to a place he fits in perfectly while not having to travel far to start his career.
