10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Myles Jack, LB, UCLA
Lovie Smith puts a high priority on speed and athleticism at all spots on defense, but especially at linebacker. He needs his linebackers to be able to drop into coverage and make plays from sideline to sideline. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one linebacker away from rounding out the group.
UCLA’s Myles Jack is a tremendous athlete who is one of the more explosive players available in this draft. He’s a smart player who trusts his reads and quickly works to the football. Jack is an elite cover linebacker with the ability to drop into zone or even play in the slot.
The Buccaneers likely rather use this pick to upgrade the offensive line but at this point the value doesn’t match.
Jack’s overall draft stock is going to be a very interesting story all year. His decision to enter the draft has raised some questions because of the torn ACL he suffered early in the season. Jack will need to show scouts and general managers that he’s recovering in order to hold value.
Luckily, he has a bit of reference as Todd Gurely went through a similar situation and was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the 10th overall pick.
