2018 NFL Mock Draft: Early June Edition
By Jon Dove
16. Detroit Lions- Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M
The Detroit Lions are in solid position this year at the wide receiver position. Golden Tate and Marvin Jones are talented players and fit with Matthew Stafford. However, Tate is aging and could be let go after the season to save some money.
Moving on from Tate would create an opening which could be addressed via the draft. Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk is an explosive athlete who runs crisp routes. He’s a big-play waiting to happen capable of taking a short pass and producing big yardage.
Kirk’s in a similar mold of Tate in that he’s more about creating space rather than using size. The Lions could slide Kirk into Tate’s spot and save some money.
Detroit also has needs along the defensive line, in the secondary and at running back. They desperately need a defensive end who could take some pressure off of Ziggy Ansah. NC State’s Bradley Chubb would be a logical option.
A powerful running back like Alabama’s Bo Scarbrough could also be a great addition. The Lions running game has been a problem for the past few seasons. They have a pass-catching back in Theo Riddick, but lack someone capable of moving the chains.
