7. Washington Redskins- Derwin James, S, Florida State

The Washington Redskins have plenty of question marks surrounding Kirk Cousins’ future, but it’s hard to imagine they allow him to leave. There are plenty of other franchises that would jump at a chance to overpay an established quarterback like Cousins.

Keeping Cousins in the mix would open the Redskins up to add talent elsewhere on the roster. Florida State’s Derwin James doesn’t necessarily fill a need, but would give the Redskins a difference maker at safety.

He’s a versatile defender who has a knack for creating game-changing plays. James brings a combination of toughness and ball skills that are hard to match.

If the Redskins were to move on from Cousins this would be the year. The 2018 NFL Draft is loaded with quarterback talent. It would give the Redskins a chance to find a cheaper and younger replacement.

The big hang up seems to be that the Redskins don’t want to pay Cousins top of the market money. Washington’s only real option to avoid that scenario is to draft a replacement. This would give them a quarterback working on a rookie salary.

It may not be the wisest of decisions, but you can’t rule anything out when it comes to Washington.
