5. John Schneider, Seattle Seahawks

John Schneider might just be the most consistent General Manager in the league. Schneider was hired in 2010 and in his nine years in Seattle, the Seahawks have compiled an impressive 89-54-1 record and made the playoffs in seven of those seasons, including two Super Bowl appearances and a championship thrown in 2013.

With Schneider and Head Coach Pete Carroll running the franchise, Seattle has been a team that has gone against convention with their draft picks at times. Players like Bruce Irvin, Frank Clark, Germain Ifedi, Rashad Penny, and even this year’s first-round pick, LJ Collier, have been much higher than many analysts projected.

Other key players Schneider is responsible for drafting include Earl Thomas, Golden Tate, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, Russell Wilson, Tyler Lockett, Shaquill Griffin, David Moore, Chris Carson, and Shaquem Griffin. 2019 second-round picks Marquise Blair and DK Metcalf are players who have a chance to push for significant playing time as rookies.

Schneider has rarely signed many big-name free agents but has had some success when he has. For example, he signed veteran defensive ends Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril in 2013 who were both keys in the Seahawks Super Bowl championship that season.

Jeremy Lane, Luke Joeckel, and DJ Fluker are a few other free agent signings who have worked out well in Seattle.

Schneider is one of the more unconventional General Managers in the NFL, but he makes it work more often than not. The big contract he just gave Russell Wilson has handcuffed him with what he could do with the rest of the roster. While it makes roster-building harder when paying one player over $30 million, it would be foolish to bet against Schneider to continue the run of success he has enjoyed in Seattle.
