Digging deep to find limited weaknesses
Since we took a look at the strong points, it is time to dig deep and look at the areas where Cesar Ruiz can improve at the next level. There are not many of them to choose from, so we will have to look closely at his game. Already mentioned was the bad weight that Ruiz could still shed as he looks to continue to transform his body.
Secondly, Ruiz struggles to pick up speed coming from blitzes on the interior of the line, most identifiable on a well-timed blitz from a middle linebacker. Schemes will get more complex at the next level, but given Ruiz’ high football IQ and awareness, he should be able to pick up on new schemes he will learn in the NFL.
Another area for Ruiz to improve is his latching at the second level in the run game. He gets to the second level with ease, and has a great initial punch, but his latch and drive against linebackers can become more consistent.
This is the extent of the weaknesses that show on a consistent basis on Ruiz’ film with the Wolverines. We will now wrap up Ruiz’ scouting report and close the his book next.
