Next year’s Joe Burrow?: 3 transfer QBs who could see rise in draft stock
By Cory Kinnan
The quarterback situation at the University of Georgia has been rather peculiar over the past three years. The Bulldogs had five-star quarterback Jacob Eason on the roster, who played well as a true freshman. The following year, Eason goes down with an injury and freshman Jake Fromm takes over and usurps his job.
We all know that Fromm and Eason are both two of the top six quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft, but then just last year the Bulldogs landed another five star quarterback in Justin Fields, who after one season transferred to Ohio State. He is now set to be a top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft along with Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
This offseason, however, now that Eason, Fromm, and Fields are all gone, the Bulldogs landed transfer quarterback Jamie Newman. After three years at Wake Forest, Newman is taking his talents to the SEC and to the University of Georgia, a move that will be fruitful to his future as he will now be paired with Air Raid guru Todd Monken who joined the Bulldogs as their offensive coordinator this season.
The 6-4 and 220 pound quarterback will be surrounded by a significant increase of talent in 2020 than he had last year with the Demon Deacons, and as a result, has put himself in position to see his draft stock take a meteoric rise in 2020.
