Gerald McCoy left Carolina in free agency to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. Here are 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects the Panthers could look to replace McCoy.

The Panthers were already going to be looking for help on the interior of the defensive line with all their key contributors at that position set to become free agents this offseason, and they could turn to the 2020 NFL Draft. That need became an even higher priority after Gerald McCoy officially moved on by signing a three-year, $20 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week.

Dontari Poe, Kyle Love, and Vernon Butler were key contributors last season on the interior of the defensive line who are also likely to leave for another team in free agency. That makes it likely that Panthers will look to add a defensive tackle early in the draft along with possibly double-dipping at the position later in the draft.

The tricky part with the new regime in Carolina is figuring out what the coaching staff will look for at the position. Matt Rhule and his defensive coordinator Phil Snow ran a 3-3-5 base defense during their time at Baylor. That isn’t really a scheme that has been used in the NFL all that much to this point. Snow in a press conference early this offseason did say they would likely run a lot of different fronts and schemes throughout games and the season. That means versatility will be key for the players they target along the defensive front.
