5 Ideal Prospects for San Francisco 49ers in 2020 NFL Draft
Jeffery Okudah is likely to be long gone by the time the 49ers pick at No. 13 while there is a strong chance C.J. Henderson is also off the board.
However, LSU’s Fulton has similar shutdown corner potential and could be available even if the Niners decide to move down from 13.
He is an excellent man and press corner. Fluid-hipped with the quickness to mirror receivers, Fulton demonstrates patience and composure and doesn’t panic if he initially concedes separation, showing the ability to recover ground and find the football before the receiver.
Physical and competitive at the catch point, Fulton – who had 14 pass breakups as a senior – has a playing style matches that of an aggressive 49ers defense, though he does need to improve as a tackler.
The main question surrounds Fulton’s lack of experience in zone coverage, on which the 49ers rely heavily.
Richard Sherman would be the perfect mentor to help Fulton adapt to the Niners’ defense and by pairing the former Tiger with the future Hall of Famer, San Francisco would make throwing to the perimeter an extremely difficult task for opposing offenses.
Okudah and Henderson have deservedly claimed much of the limelight among the corners but, on a defense as talented as that of San Francisco, Fulton can prove he was worthy of similar billing.
