3 2020 NFL Draft UDFAs with best chance to make Cowboys roster
By Cory Kinnan
Charlie Taumoepeau, TE, Portland State
The Cowboys have not found a replacement at tight end ever since Jason Witten retired the first time around. Blake Jarwin has taken over the role predominantly since the departure of Witten, but there has not been a tight end who has won over the position long term in the past three seasons.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys again declined to draft a tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft, but they did sign undrafted Portland State tight end Charlie Taumoepeau. Portland State has not had a ton of talent come out of their program and into the NFL, but Taumoepeau managed to snag a Senior Bowl invite and combine invite prior to the 2020 NFL Draft.
Taumoepeau has elite explosiveness, posting top tiered numbers in both the vertical and broad jump at the combine, but does not have great size or speed. At just 6-2 and 240 pounds, Taumoepeau will have to prove that he can play more than just in-line tight end in order to make the roster. He can play in the H-back role for the Cowboys, and will need to flash that versatility in camp this summer.
Given the lack of depth at the tight end position in Dallas, do not sleep on Taumoepeau to land as a versatile chess piece on the roster.
