Flipping from right to left tackle

During his two year tenure as a starter with the Crimson Tide, Jedrick Wills started on the right side of the line. Jonah Williams, now of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Alex Leatherwood have started at left tackle over those two seasons.

More from With the First Pick

As Wills moves to Cleveland and heads to the NFL, he will now be asked to play left tackle at the professional level. On the surface this may not seem like a steep task, but when the muscle memory is so well adjusted to one side, it may be a difficult task to unlearn, then re-learn technique over again.

First round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tristan Wirfs had the perfect analogy for what it is like to learn to play on the other side of the offensive line as a tackle:

"It just feels awkward at first but once you settle in it feels fine. . . . It kinda feels like wiping your butt with your other hand. It just feels a little awkward at first, but you get used to it (via PFT)."

Well, Wills had better start practicing.

The Browns have stated that they have a backup plan in case Wills cannot learn the ropes at left tackle that would include flipping him and Conklin. However, Wills seems intelligent and has enough talent to take to the task of re-learning his technique for the next level.
