Expedited learning

The second challenge that lies ahead for Jedrick Wills as he plans for a successful career with the Browns is the speed at which he will have to learn the new system in Cleveland. Being the tenth overall pick, and due to the struggles at the tackle position a year ago for the Browns, the expectation has always been that Wills will be a day one starter.

This means that Wills only has the summer to learn a new offensive system, adjust his muscle memory from playing right tackle to left, and to catch up to the speed of the NFL before being thrust out at left tackle week one in September. Again, Wills seems like a smart guy who has the ability to absorb information quickly, but adjusting to the NFL in one summer is a ton to ask of a 21 year old.

Wills was touted as the top offensive tackle in the class by many experts including the likes of The Draft Network’s Kyle Crabbs, and Pewter Report’s Jon Ledyard. Top tackles are often asked to start right away, as Andrew Thomas, Tristan Wirfs, and Mekhi Becton will as well. This, however, does not make the process of adjusting to the NFL, especially at an expedited pace, any easier.
