Allen checks a lot of boxes of previous dark-horse MVP candidates. Allen has shown he is definitely erratic at times and with a run heavy scheme in his two years, it may seem like he is not fit to be in an MVP race.

More from With the First Pick

A lot of experts have a bitter taste in their mouth after his first career start in the postseason against the Texans last year showing his disregard for ball security in crucial moments. However, we shouldn’t be too quick to jump to such rash conclusions. Lamar Jackson had a similar slip-up in his first career postseason start against the Chargers and came back as a much more polished and refined passer after an offseason with tons of criticism.

With Allen’s arm strength, athleticism, and the Bills efforts’ to help surround him with much more talent this offseason, this could be a recipe for an explosion for the Bills franchise quarterback. Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane sought out a true number one wide receiver when acquiring Stefon Diggs.

With the combination of Diggs, John Brown, and Cole Beasley in the slot, there is a ton of speed for Allen to throw the ball around. In addition, Devin Singletary gets a year older while they selected Utah running back Zack Moss in round two.

The Bills should have a solid run game to compliment their aerial attack. Their defense has proven to be very solid under McDermott’s tutelage. With Tom Brady no longer in the division, the Bills seem to be the favorites for the first time in a very long time. With 11 to 12 wins, Allen could post some monster numbers in potentially the weakest division in football.

In 2019, Allen posted twenty touchdown passes along with nine on the ground giving him twenty-nine total touchdowns. Not exactly in the same conversation as Lamar’s forty-three total touchdowns last year; however, with all of these factors working in Allen’s favor, he could easily have over forty total touchdowns in this upcoming season.
