When turning on Shelvin’s tape, the first physical trait that jumps off the screen is his play strength. While it would be more efficient if he could push his man into the backfield consistently, he holds the point of attack well, displaying a good anchor when he digs his heels into the turf.

He has a great initial pass rush move, and has a strong, strong initial punch as well as he looks to wreak havoc on opposing backfield. In addition, he plays at a high level, going from whistle-to-whistle, playing at a championship level of energy for the Tigers.
Looking deeper at his moves, Shelvin wins in a variety of ways off of the line of scrimmage, including a long arm and swim move. As a pass rusher, Shelvin has the ability to make himself small as he shoots gaps as a disruptor.
Overall, Shelvin has flashes of brilliance on tape as a disruptor and as a space eater down in the Bayou, but he lacks overall consistency to be a dominant defensive tackle day in and day out. Next we will take a look at the areas of Shelvin’s game that will make him a dominant space eater at the next level if he improves.
