LSU Football: What is the 2021 NFL Draft outlook of Tyler Shelvin?
By Cory Kinnan
What is his 2021 NFL Draft projection?
When looking towards the 2021 NFL Draft, which is next up for the now former LSU Tiger, it is hard to justify using anything more than a day-three pick on Shelvin given his lack of versatility. Defensive tackles rotate out more often than any other position already, so a defensive tackle who then specializes as just a two-down nose tackle will make Shelvin even less of a priority in the draft.
If Shelvin showed the ability to play as a three-technique more often than he did at LSU, we may be talking about him as a day-two pick. Leaving LSU was a peculiar decision for Shelvin to make, as he only has one full season under his belt as a starter. However, with all of the turnover at LSU and with the ongoing health crisis, it is hard to question a player’s decision to do what is best for him.
With no pass rushing versatility and limited repetitions playing anywhere than directly over the center it is hard to project he can do so and succeed at the next level. He can turn heads at the NFL Scouting Combine if he tests well, however on tape Shelvin does not appear to be a high-profile athlete either. Shelvin, however, always has the chance to improve and prove everyone wrong as he looks to transition to the NFL.
