Derion Kendrick, CB, Clemson

Over the past two seasons, Clemson has turned into a contender for DBU. While they do not have the consistent output that Ohio State or LSU has had in their defensive secondary as far as NFL Draftees and next level success is concerned, they have put out two top-50 picks in the past two drafts at the cornerback position.

More from With the First Pick

First Trayvon Mullen landed with the now Las Vegas Raiders with the 40th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, then just this past April the Atlanta Falcons made A.J. Terrell their first round selection as they look to revamp their secondary. Playing opposite of Terrell in 2020, however, is now Junior cornerback Derion Kendrick who now enters the season as Clemson’s top cornerback.

A second team All-ACC addition from a year ago, Kendrick will not only have more pressure on his lap this year, but will look to add more to his portfolio on tape under a larger microscope as well. In 2020, Kendrick racked up six passes defended and two interceptions for the Tigers as a Sophomore.

Jack Borowsky of The Dynasty Draft Room brings insight into the Clemson cornerback:

"“Kendrick moves downhill really fast and is a very fluid mover. His instincts for being so new to the position are very good. He has flash plays that show elite level mirror ability. Having played wideout, Kendrick has excellent ball skills and is always around the football. He goes after the football when it is in the air, which is why Kendrick has big-play potential.”"

After the opt out of star Wake Forest wide receiver Sage Surratt, Kendrick and the Clemson secondary should not face much of a test from this receiving corps. However, look for Kendrick to keep his energy level and effort high even with a potential drop in level of competition.
