1. New York Jets: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
The New York Jets stay the course as they remain the only team without a victory in the NFL as the midway point nears. It is not all bad news for the Jets, however, as their 2020 struggles will lead to two favorable outcomes: the firing of current head coach Adam Gase, and putting sensational Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence right in their sights.
Lawrence has been off to a hot start for the Tigers in 2020 as they look to get back to a third consecutive National Championship game, and a second title in three years after losing to the LSU Tigers a year ago. Thus far, the 6-foot-6 and 220 gunslinger has thrown for 1,833 yards through the air with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions; Lawrence is completing passes at an absurd rate of nearly 71 percent.
With the first pick in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft, Lawrence once again heads to the Big Apple as the Jets look for a fresh reset of culture after the Gase era has crushed the spirits of the roster and locker room. His production dropped off this week, but other than that, Lawrence has played a nearly perfect season with the Tigers; as a result he will more than likely be heading to New York not only as a Heisman finalist, but to the Jets as the first pick in April as well.
