Round 1, Pick 7: Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

With the seventh overall pick in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft, the Washington Football Team lands the new leader of their franchise in the form of North Dakota State’s Trey Lance. After his showcase game against Central Arkansas and then opting out, the standout Lance is now training for the 2021 NFL Draft. As Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields lead the way, Lance still looks primed to be a top-ten pick this upcoming April.

He went all of his 2019 season without throwing an interception, and threw just one in his showcase game, proving he has the ability to take care of the football. He possesses top of the line arm talent and athletic ability, and while he has a bit of room to grow as he learns to process the field, he is well worth the investment in the top-ten of the 2021 NFL Draft.

It has been clearly apparent that Rivera has been looking for his own quarterback since coming to the nation’s capital. If Washington finds themselves out of the reach of the big three quarterbacks, they may opt for BYU’s Zach Wilson, Alabama’s Mac Jones, or even look to reunite with Cam Newton.

However, here, they find their way into position to land Lance and look to build around him for the future.
