1. New York Jets: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Nothing has changed from the last mock; the Jets are still bad, Trevor Lawrence is still good. The Jets need a full restart and a new coach and Trevor Lawrence can do that for them. Adam Gase has driven this franchise six-feet into the dirt and is still driving.
Sam Darnold has been shell-shocked by his failure and has shown no progression through two-and-a-half years. Joe Douglas needs to trade Sam Darnold to hopefully salvage his career and then select Trevor Lawrence as the next quarterback of the New York Jets. This complete restart will hopefully help this franchise trend in the right direction.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a similar situation to the Jets, but they have a better current situation. Gardner Minshew turned out to not be the guy the fans and franchise were hoping he’d be. While that might seem unfortunate at first, it really isn’t.
If Minshew was good, the Jags are set, if he isn’t, his failure sets them up perfectly to draft a new quarterback like we expected them to do all along. Justin Fields immediately slides into the starting quarterback job and should run far away with it. Fields brings a rare blend of arm talent and running ability that we don’t see very often.
