2021 NFL Draft: 3 fits for Chuba Hubbard at the next level
By Surae Poole
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers run game has been struggling to put it nicely. Currently ranked 31st averaging a messily 89.1 yards per game. Let’s take it a step further. Pittsburgh is also second to last in the league in rushing yards per attempt with 3.7 yards a carry. It’s been a horrid rushing attack. The offensive line Is getting older and injuries have been an issue.
Respectively, James Conner is a product of his environment. He’s great when everything around him is great and he struggles when things break down. He’s not the type of player to make something out of nothing. He’s a physical downhill runner but doesn’t offer much else. Injury concerns have been an issue for Conner as he hasn’t played a full season since becoming the starting running back in Pittsburgh.
Benny Snell is the second string running back who’s playstyle is like Conner’s. Another physical runner who runs very well in between the tackles. The overall position group lacks talent and juice. They have other guys like Anthony McFarland and Jaylen Samuels but neither of them is a key contributor for this offense. Drafting Chuba Hubbard does a few things for this team. He will boost the talent level at the position but mainly he brings a different style of play.
