The fortunes of the Jaguars have drastically changed

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been locked into the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. After the Jags lost to the Bears, and the Jets won their second game in a row, the first overall pick was secured. The team that has been in quarterback purgatory for just about their entire existence, has secured the opportunity to draft the quarterback of the future for the next decade at least. However, as much as Jags fans want to only focus on that first overall pick; the draft is seven rounds long, and the team has many, many picks to work with this year.

The Jaguars currently have eleven picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. Two of them are in the first round, and they have four total within the top-50. Currently, this team has a vacancy at GM and will most likely have a vacancy at head coach soon.

Jacksonville will be the most attractive position for GM and head coaching candidates due to the young talent that has been acquired in past years, and the amount of young talent that will be acquired this year. There are many different roads this team can go, but let’s look at one of them with this Jacksonville Jaguars seven round mock draft.

Round 1, Pick 1: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

It’s enough to make a Jags fan cry. The team who has not seen good quarterback play in quite some time is now able to draft the guy who can lock down the position for the next 15 years or so. The card should already be written.

There is zero reason the front office should act like they are considering any other player with this selection. Trevor Lawrence has the arm strength, the accuracy, the decision making, the athleticism and the experience that no team would question. Quarterback is the biggest need, Lawrence is the best player in the class. It’s a match made in heaven.

The rotation of Gardener Minshew, Jake Luton and Mike Glennon has been awful to watch. With weapons like James Robinson, D.J. Chark and Laviska Shenault, this offense should be better; but the quarterback is holding them back. Adding Lawrence to this offense genuinely makes them contenders to be one of the better units in the league.

Chark is one of the better vertical receivers in the league, Shenault is a YAC monster and Robinson has been a phenomenal find as a UDFA. This pick is a no brainer. Lawrence has been the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft the day he won the National Championship; and that has not changed.
