The signal callers from the 2023 NFL Draft are yet to take the field in the pros, but it is never too early to look ahead. Know who to keep an eye on with our early 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

It is already lining up to be an exciting class of QBs, with potential superstars lurking at the top as well as real depth at the position. There is currently a runaway favorite for the number one overall pick but beyond that, everything is still up for grabs.

Can anyone challenge Caleb Williams atop the 2024 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings?

2022 statistics: 14 games played, 333 completions on 500 attempts (66.6%) for 4,537 yards. 42 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. 382 rushing yards with 10 scores. Won the Heisman Trophy.

The undoubted number one overall pick if the 2024 NFL Draft were to be hosted tomorrow. Williams cannot be simply evaluated as a quarterback when assessing his value. He is a trailblazer who operates with both poise and explosion and should become a true franchise-altering commodity at the next level.

Some of his playmaking is preposterous. He has shown time and again an ability to deliver accurate downfield strikes with ease whenever outside the pocket, under duress, or off-platform. This natural awareness and feel for the game is way beyond his peers in this class.

Due to these instincts, Williams is highly creative and is a genuine dual threat. He has a powerful arm that has a Mahomesian quality about it, in that he does not have any diminished velocity or accuracy when throwing from a wide variety of arm angles. He will throw effortlessly across his body whilst on the move, zeroing in on his target with unerring precision.

Williams is a cool decision maker and rarely looks flustered. Despite his natural tendency for ‘wow’ plays and spontaneity, he plays with a level of maturity and intelligence that sees him look after the ball. This only serves to highlight his presence and undoubted leadership qualities. At this stage, he is the only quarterback in this class who quite clearly has that all-important ‘it’ factor needed to become the face of a lucky NFL franchise in 2024.

2022 statistics: 14 games played, 342 completions on 517 attempts (66.2%) for 4,321 yards. 38 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions. 698 rushing yards with seven scores.

Maye possesses a prototypical frame and has an impressive repertoire of passing range and touch. Able to adjust his velocity and timing to suit the situation and tempo of the game, the Tar Heel has all the raw tools to mature into a promising NFL quarterback.

Whilst not a long-time starter, Maye already has an advanced ability to read and adapt to the defense and situation from play to play. He appears to be in control pre-snap and seems to communicate effectively at the line of scrimmage, adapting protection calls where necessary. When his protection does break down, Maye remains calm and is able to deliver strikes under pressure. He does not have the same level of escapability as some of his peers in this class but can use his legs when needed to move the chains.

A big 2023 season could set up Maye as the second quarterback off the board, but there are areas for him to show improved consistency. He does have unexpected misses and can be erratic when throwing on the move, lacking the requisite touch in such situations from time to time. However, when he has his footwork and base under control and working in sync, his accuracy can be exceptional.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 215 completions on 338 attempts (63.6%) for 3,009 yards. 27 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. 478 rushing yards with 10 scores.

Pratt is currently flying under the radar as a top prospect but could break out in a big way in 2023. He will have to put the Tulane offense on his back after losing Tyjae Spears to the NFL, but his confident play style and clutch mentality suggest that he will be able to do just that.

He has a quick release and can throw accurate darts to the short and intermediate areas of the field with ease. The Tulane product also looks after the ball well, recording a turnover-worthy play on only 1.7% of his snaps last year. It could be argued that this is a result of the offense not forcing him to make complicated reads or lengthy progressions, but it highlights an organized and composed mindset and his excellent pocket awareness.

When the pocket does break down though, it is rarely a back-breaking issue as Pratt is also a legitimate dual-threat QB. He recorded highly impressive numbers to the tune of 478 yards rushing and ten scores on the ground in 2022. He is also very effective and accurate when throwing on the run.

Whilst his arm is not quite as explosive as Williams or Quinn Ewers, Pratt’s deep accuracy is a major plus point. Overall, he has a higher upside than many of the other names currently being bandied about after Williams and Maye and could grab a lot of attention over the coming six months.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 226 completions on 353 attempts (64.0%) for 3,214 yards. 24 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. 417 yards rushing with seven scores.

Travis is an intriguing prospect and deserves his top-five spot in these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings. He is a dynamic player who can deliver a ball with precision and has sufficient arm strength to access all levels, displaying excellent touch and loft on deep balls. The ball comes out of his hand quickly and he has a smooth and compact release, all whilst retaining efficient footwork throughout.

Whilst he has an understandable belief in his arm, it can sometimes get him into trouble and see him deliver reckless turnover-worthy plays. He will sometimes trust himself too much and throw into suffocating coverage or try to fit the ball into windows that are better left alone. When he does get going though, his ability to pick up chunk plays on sideline throws and on deep seams is highly impressive.

The Seminole is a true dual threat QB who is able to escape the pocket and improvise well and this enables him to execute an effective play action game. He has shown ample evidence that he can either run the ball himself (1,506 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns in the last three years) or launch the ball whilst on the run to a receiver who has managed to wriggle free of coverage.

Travis is also able to hang tough in the pocket when needed, staying calm in the face of pressure, and will still deliver catchable balls. Put simply, he is a terrific athlete with sound mechanics and has a truly exciting upside at the position. If his emergence in 2022 is a harbinger of what is to come, then watch out: It is not out of the question that Jordan Travis could hear his name called on day one of the 2024 NFL Draft.

2022 statistics: 10 games played, 172 completions on 296 attempts (58.1%) for 2,177 yards. 15 passing touchdowns, six interceptions. -52 yards rushing with one score.

Plenty of hype has surrounded Ewers since even before he arrived in Texas. The question this year is whether he can truly break out as a legitimate first-round prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft. He will be blessed with plenty of weapons to do so this year, most notably in Xavier Worthy, who will himself be looking to force his way into consideration as one of the top receivers in the 2024 class.

Ewers is fearless and shows it regularly, as he aggressively challenges defenses to all levels of the field. Questions remain as to whether he currently possesses a high enough level of deep accuracy to match this fearlessness to be a success at the NFL level, but he has the potential to develop in this area.

If the Longhorn can match up his bodily mechanics, footwork, and processing with his raw toolbox, then he should take a giant leap in 2023. He has an efficient arm motion and release that drips with upside and allows him to throw from different arm angles with touch and velocity. If he can find a higher level of consistency in 2023, then do not be surprised if he is battling Drake Maye to be the second quarterback off the board and jump up these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings later in the year.

MICHAEL PENIX Jr. of Washington Huskies is the 6th ranked quarterback on this list of 2024 NFL Draft prospects

2024 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Two QBs including Michael Penix Jr making the most of renewed opportunity in their new surroundings and three young guns look to join the elite as we take a look at #6-10.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 362 completions on 554 attempts (65.3%) for 4,641 yards. 31 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions. 92 rushing yards with four scores.

The arm talent of Michael Penix is undeniable. He can challenge and stress defenses in ways that many of his peers cannot. Penix will dart balls between defenders, through traffic, and into tight windows, throwing balls that take your breath away. The big question is whether this can be sustained in the NFL.

Indeed, this swashbuckling style can sometimes lead to reckless mistakes, but there is every reason to think that he can take his game to the pros. Penix displays generally sound mechanics, which enable him to play with composure and deliberate variation to his touch and velocity. He is not a true dual threat, but he is able to throw off platform and on the run without a notable drop in accuracy.

Penix proved last year that he is also excellent pre-snap; from the reads that he makes to his confidence in changing protection calls and recognizing different coverages. All of this enabled him to take advantage to the tune of 4,641 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2022.

Year two in this scheme is on the horizon and alongside a deep returning receiver group, Penix could see his numbers go nuclear in 2023 in his quest to solidify his status as an early-round pick to match his position in these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 250 completions on 392 attempts (63.8%) for 2,967 yards. 20 passing touchdowns, six interceptions. 699 rushing yards with 13 scores.

Excellent size, if a little lean, and reads the game well despite having only one full season as a starter under his belt; Leonard is the prospect that many are enamored by and expect to rise up the 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings. In fact, there are analysts out there who are already projecting Leonard as a first-round pick, well ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Firstly, he is a real threat with his legs and possesses legitimate long speed as a runner. He combines this with real vision and agility and can weave through traffic at will. Leonard is always eager to run because he knows that he will be able to rip off huge gains, but this sometimes means that he is too eager to scramble and do it all by himself. Regardless of occasional ill-advised over-exuberance, this is a truly exciting aspect of his game that defenders must account for on every play.

The Blue Devil is an accurate passer and can deftly place the ball in between defenders at the second level. He proved in 2022 that he is able to drop the ball in a bucket when in scoring range and deliver precise lofted balls that only his receivers can snag. A high level of deep accuracy is also a standout facet of his game and he consistently leads his receivers downfield, showing an ability to deliver strikes that hit them perfectly in stride. He has a big enough arm to compete at the next level, but it cannot be described as a cannon.

Leonard displays good zip on passes underneath and the ability to adjust his arm angles effectively. He is a calm and composed presence at the line of scrimmage and makes it look like the game comes easily for him. This innate quality sometimes works to his detriment though as he can lock onto receivers and telegraph his passes somewhat.

It will be intriguing to see if defenders adapt to this in 2023 and if so, Leonard will face a higher degree of adversity than what he has done so far. This will only be good for his game though and if Leonard can add a layer of disguise and nuance to his game, then the sky is the limit.

2022 statistics: 14 games played, 208 completions on 322 attempts (64.6%) for 2,719 yards. 22 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. 306 yards rushing with five scores.

McCarthy has a decent arm and above-average rushing ability, without the upside of some of the other prospects ranked higher in these rankings. He can, however, be erratic at times.

The Wolverine has a crisp release and throws with a reasonable level of velocity. This is especially evident when targeting receivers in short and intermediate areas. He is able to adjust his arm angle well to find tight windows as chaos descends around him, highlighting his ability as a creator in short areas. Furthermore, when McCarthy is overwhelmed by unrelenting pressure, he has excellent escapability and is flexible enough to wriggle free of would-be tacklers, evading potential sacks.

This scrambling ability was clear to see in 2022 as McCarthy showed consistently that he can produce off-script plays with his feet, and is a confident runner with good vision. He has the toughness and contact balance required to pick up the hard yards when needed.

As mentioned, McCarthy does tend to be erratic from time to time. His ability as a runner and creator is a major plus point, but he often has to resort to these gifts due to a lack of feel in the pocket. To compound this, his deep accuracy and speed with which he diagnoses coverages hinder his overall game.

Having said this, 2022 was only his first year as a starter and so with time and reps, we should see McCarthy continue to grow and challenge the upper echelons of these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 320 completions on 497 attempts (64.4%) for 3,232 yards. 23 passing touchdowns, nine interceptions. 58 rushing yards with five scores.

Ward certainly has a reasonable arm that allows him to make vertical plays but can be inconsistent with his accuracy. This could be because his mechanics look a little unorthodox and out of sync and can vary from play to play. This does help him as a creator, because he is able to adjust quickly and improvise, and adds an aura of unpredictability, but it may mean that he never becomes an effective pocket passer.

Irrespective of this, Ward can extend plays and elude pressure in the pocket and this is where he wins. He always looks to prioritize his downfield threats over taking off and running but holds potential as a scrambler. When he does have to move the chains himself, he is enough of a mover to be effective in short-yardage situations and can pick up crucial third downs with his legs.

Furthermore, his throwing accuracy when on the run is excellent, and he can make plays when off-platform and when defenders are crashing in on him from all directions. He does well to stand up to such pressure and plays bigger than his listed size.

The Cougar does not yet have years of experience against top-tier college opposition having been a transfer from Incarnate Word, but he will have modern-day NFL offensive talent evaluators intoxicated about what he could become. Some refinement in places without taking away his flair for the unexpected could see him make a successful leap into the pros one day.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 294 completions on 409 attempts (71.9%) for 3,593 yards. 29 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions. 510 rushing yards with 14 scores.

Nix has had a career resurgence at Oregon and looked excellent in 2022 for the Ducks compared to his earlier years in the tougher SEC. His short and intermediate accuracy is excellent and plays with a real urgency and rhythm.

Having said that, concerns arise when he needs to improvise with his arm as he can telegraph balls and he begins to look a bit erratic when truly under pressure or no obvious receivers are waiting for him to deliver the ball. This may be indicative of the fact that he often has weapons available in acres of space thanks to the scheme, enabling him to deliver impressive-looking deep balls.

At the next level, this will not be as commonplace and questions remain as to whether he will be able to operate as effectively when forced to deliver the ball into tight windows on a more consistent basis.

Nix is a modest dual threat (irrespective of the 14 touchdowns on the ground) and a capable scrambler, but he is more powerful as a runner than he is elusive. This means that this will not be a key selling point of his game when comparing signal callers in this class. A mid-round pick is likely when all is said and done and he is not likely to rise too high up the 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

Tyler Van Dyke is the 12th ranked quarterback in these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings and could rise higher with a good season.
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA – SEPTEMBER 01: Tyler Van Dyke #9 of the Miami Hurricanes throws a pass against the Miami (Oh) Redhawks during the first quarter of the game at Hard Rock Stadium on September 01, 2023 in Miami Gardens, Florida. (Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images)

2024 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings: Tyler Van Dyke will seek to make up for lost ground in 2023, but a rocket-armed Volunteer leads the charge just outside the top 10. Plus plenty of familiar names looking to take the leap towards their pro future.

2022 statistics: 9 games played, 53 completions on 82 attempts (64.6%) for 971 yards. 10 passing touchdowns, zero interceptions. 77 rushing yards.

A rocket arm could quite literally launch Milton to national prominence this season and propel him dramatically up the quarterback rankings by the time the 2024 NFL Draft rolls around.

The Volunteer has a real cannon of an arm, arguably the most impressive in the class. He can launch high-velocity strikes downfield with a simple flick of the wrist and does so with reasonable accuracy. This extreme arm talent does sometimes lead to shorter balls sailing, but with additional experience, Milton should be able to find his touch and learn to rein it in when needed.

There is plenty of work to be done with Milton’s game. He does not have the prettiest mechanics and looks a bit rigid and workmanlike with his technique. Furthermore, his play diagnostics and decision making both need polish, but the natural tools are certainly there.

Milton has an ideal frame to become a rushing threat in short-yardage situations but has not yet proven that he can be an effective operator in this sense. He clearly has the power and strength to do this, but appears a little upright and stiff when looking to exploit open creases within the pocket.

He has never been a full-time starter at the college level until this year, so the best is surely yet to come. Milton should set tongues wagging with an impressive season and for his upside alone, may crack the top-100 in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2022 statistics: 9 games played, 160 completions on 253 attempts (63.2%) for 1,835 yards. 10 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. -34 rushing yards.

Van Dyke is one to watch and has been for a couple of years now due to his intriguing tools and prototypical size. Unfortunately, he has looked shell-shocked in recent times and a pale imitation of what was expected of him after he initially broke through in 2021. Whether this is due to the uninspiring Miami offense holding him back, or whether last season is truly his level remains to be seen. Either way, 2023 feels like a make-or-break year for his 2024 NFL Draft value.

He has shown that he has a genuine arm and can deliver an accurate passing game to all levels of the field, but this was stymied in Miami last year. Van Dyke was not healthy and his confidence seemed to take a hit on an offense that lacked explosive opportunities and playmakers around him that would have allowed him to shine.

In what should be an improved situation under new Offensive Coordinator Shannon Dawson, Van Dyke should be able to prove his doubters wrong this year. He is an efficient processor and will have a chance to showcase his athletic upside both inside and outside of the pocket. There is a gunslinger who has teased legitimate potential locked away here waiting to emerge in 2023. Top-three upside if everything clicks.

2022 statistics: 13 games played, 264 completions on 399 attempts (66.2%) for 3,026 yards. 18 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions. 46 rushing yards with three scores.

Can he become what everyone thought he could be? Rattler’s raw talent has never been in question as he has a good enough arm to make all the throws, but he has done so with reckless abandon that has gotten him into trouble at times.

This mentality shifted late in 2022 and Rattler showed improved composure, touch and pocket manipulation, and a high level of poise and maturity that could continue to be unlocked in 2023. His final five game stat line of 2022 resulted in a completion percentage of 68.9% and saw him throw for 1,389 yards, 13 touchdowns, and only three interceptions.

Areas that Rattler certainly needs to work on are evident though. He is often late to sense pressure and escape the pocket. Even when he does, he is not terribly elusive and often spins into trouble meaning that he does not quite have the dual threat upside as some of his peers.

However, if late 2022 is a harbinger of what is to come and he can continue to play with patience and anticipation, his status as a top prospect should be on the rise once again in time next April and see him jump up the 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

2022 statistics: 11 games played, 204 completions on 300 attempts (68.0%) for 2,636 yards. 24 passing touchdowns, five interceptions. 640 rushing yards with nine scores.

This year will be Jefferson’s third full year starting for Arkansas and he has been a quarterback who has always seemed to be on the verge of emerging into something for Draftniks to salivate over. Unfortunately, he has been overshadowed by other, more prominent QBs thus far, and has perhaps not received the spotlight that he deserves.

Whilst Jefferson has sufficient arm strength, it does not pop off the screen as one might expect for a quarterback of his build. His accuracy and touch are sufficient and enable him to stress defenses at all levels of the field when he has time.

He also shows a high degree of anticipation when the play is in motion within condensed areas such as the red zone, as defenses must respect him as a short-area runner. This allows him to regularly hit on fast-developing plays and find receivers who have settled in soft zones.

The Razorback does not however always appear to read coverages correctly pre-snap on longer drives, which makes his processing seemingly muddled. This affects his overall poise and rhythm and he can look jumpy in the pocket. As a result, it is easy to question his overall decision making, and he often has to force the issue and rely on his ability to make plays when the pocket has collapsed with defenders hanging off him. His athletic profile allows him to do this at the college level, but NFL defenders will not be so forgiving.

Jefferson has the athleticism to move out of pocket as a runner and the strength and frame to burst through arm tackles, but he is more of a linear runner than a nimble, elusive type. His throwing arm can be very inconsistent when on the move.

Overall, it is unlikely that Jefferson will challenge the top QBs in the 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings, but he has a shot to be drafted on day three as a developmental backup.

2022 statistics: 14 games played, 266 completions on 388 attempts (68.6%) for 2,913 yards. 17 passing touchdowns, three interceptions. 885 rushing yards with 11 scores.

The new season will be a defining one for Jayden Daniels. He is a quarterback who possesses several promising traits, but questions abound as to his true ceiling and potential as a future NFL signal caller.

Daniels is an effective scrambler who makes innumerable plays with his feet — as his stats prove — but does sometimes rely on this a little too much. In 2023, it will be to his long-term benefit if he develops the patience and trust with his o-line to sit in the pocket and allow plays to develop.

He has an accurate arm, but does not possess any real velocity and often under throws receivers on deep routes. Sometimes underneath he has a habit of throwing into traffic, and whilst his performance and completion percentage have not been severely diminished so far in his career, he will not get away with such risks at the next level. It has to be said though that he does typically protect the ball and is rarely guilty of committing flagrant turnover-worthy plays.

If Daniels can put more evidence onto tape that clearly shows an ability to fully take command of his offense, make decisive reads at the line of scrimmage, and execute the system with poise, then he will elevate himself up this list. For now, a day-three pick is most likely in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Who else could emerge and rise up these 2024 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings?

16. Shedeur Sanders, 6’2/215lbs — Colorado

May not declare for next year’s draft as this will be the first year that he will be playing at a higher level than he is used to at Jackson State, but there are elements of Sanders’ game to be excited about. Has an intriguing arm, with repeatable mechanics and appears an athletic prospect with genuine raw talent.

Does not possess an ideal frame and it will be intriguing to see how he stands up to real pressure throughout the season. Had an impressive 70.6% completion percentage in 2022 at Jackson State on 483 attempts, throwing 40 touchdowns to six interceptions. Can he remain composed and operate at a higher level effectively in the face of increased expectations? Has NFL bloodlines, and is the son of Deion Sanders. Expect him to rise up the 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

17. Sam Hartman, 6’1/208lbs — Notre Dame

Good touch and accuracy on his passes and is a tough, veteran competitor at the collegiate level. His experience is obvious as he can operate effectively inside the pocket and reads the game well. Works through his progressions efficiently. Has questionable raw tools and spotty decision-making, but can attack the field deep and make most of the throws required. Will be interesting to see if he can elevate the Notre Dame offense this season. If he can, then a mid-round selection is not off the table.

18. Devin Leary, 6’1/212lbs — Kentucky

Has decent zip underneath and is very accurate in short areas of the field on quick routes. His balls can float and die when he targets receivers further downfield due to his arm strength being average. Decisive in the pocket and works through his reads whilst staying poised in the face of pressure. Is undersized and seems smaller than his listed 6’1/212lbs. Point guard, but he lacks the upside of an NFL starter hence why he is so low in these 2024 NFL Draft quarterback rankings.

19. Phil Jurkovec — Pittsburgh
20. Cameron Rising — Utah
21. Grayson McCall — Coastal Carolina
22. Austin Reed — Western Kentucky
23. Jeff Sims — Nebraska
24. Tyler Shough — Texas Tech
25. Kedon Slovis — BYU
