Pro Day: Phil Taylor and Danny Watkins Impress

The NFL Scouting Combine is now over, and that means it’s time for Universities across the nation to hold their Pro Day’s. The first notable school up was Baylor. Today, Defensive Tackle, Phil Taylor and Offensive Tackle, Danny Watkins got a second opportunity to show off their skills to scouts and coaches. According to NFL.com’s Gil Brandt, Taylor and Watkins had an exceptional showing. Here’s what he had to say:

"Both Taylor and Watkins elected to stand on their numbers at the combine, but they worked out extremely well in position drills. I already had Taylor (6-foot-3, 334 pounds) among my top-30 prospects, and I believe he might have solidified himself as a first-round pick with his workout."

"As for Watkins (6-3, 310), his football experience is limited, but he has dramatically improved his stock since the combine. And after this workout today, I believe he has a shot at going in the second round. What’s interesting about Watkins is his age. He’s 26 years old, and I wonder how much of a hindrance that could potentially be considered, but it’s pretty clear this guy is going to be a good football player."

Phil Taylor is my #1 rated 3-4 nose tackle in the draft. With the over abundance of teams running the defensive scheme, Taylor will get many first round looks. He has a chance to go as high as #21 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Danny Watkins has made good headway over the past couple of months. He has gone from an obscure name, to someone many fans are including in their team mock drafts. Both players should be able to enter the NFL and make an immediate impact. I’m looking forward to seeing where they land, and following their careers.
