Nick de la Torre’s Mock Draft (4/20/11)

1. Carolina Panthers – Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

  • Jimmy Clausen doesn’t seem to be the answer. He started 10 games and played in a total of 13. His TD:INT ratio was 3:9. He also posted a below average completion percentage with 52%. Cam Newton will be able to step in right away and challenge Clausen for the starting job at camp. He will also bring fans back to the seats.

2. Denver Broncos –  Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

  • Plain and simple, the Bronco’s pass rush was abysmal last year. They finished last ranked in total defense, and 31st in rush defense, allowing 154 yards a game. Marcel Dareus will fortify the defensive line and help the second worse run defense in the league.

3. Buffalo Bills – Von Miller, DE, Texas A&M

  • Personally, when I look at Von Miller I see Vernon Gholston 2.0, I may be alone in this but they look very similar. Still, with the Mcshay’s and Kiper’s blessings, he will inevitably be a top 10 pick. The Bills finished the season tied for 27th in sacks. They could use help on the edge.

4. Cincinnati Bengals – A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

  • With T.O gone, and Ochocinco’s days numbered, A.J. Green will most likely come off the board at this spot. It just makes sense.

5. Arizona Cardinals –  Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

  • The Cardinals might lose Larry Fitzgerald if they don’t heed his requests for a starting caliber quarterback. There is no CBA, so they may have to turn to the draft to fulfill their needs. Blaine Gabbert is sitting on the board, so he’s the pick.
