2012 NFL Mock Draft Washington Redskins7 Round Mock

facebooktwitterreddit

The Redskins gave up a lot to get in position to draft Robert Griffin III which this 2012 NFL Mock draft will show and they also went out and filled a lot of needs so their ability to remain flexible after the first round is now a reality.

The Redskins have added WR talent and some talent in the secondary, but still have needs. They could use even more talent and depth in the secondary. They can find the future replacement for London Fletcher, they could get improve at the Defensive end spot, and they could continue to add OL depth.

Round 1: Robert Griffin III

I don’t think this pick needs an explanation. I’ll say this, this pick does not come without risk. I find it insane that so many people are jumping on the RGIII bandwagon over Luck. Griffin is spectacular prospect, but he’s not Andrew Luck. He has an inconsistent release point, he’s had a few concerning injuries in college like concussions and missing an entire year because of a leg injury, and he’s coming from a spread offense. There is risk. I’m high on Griffin III, but of the two I think Luck is much more of a sure thing.

Round 2: TRADED

Round 3: Jeff Allen, G/T, Illinois

I originally had Brandon Brooks slate here, Brooks is a guy that is well on the radar of NFL scouts and could go as high as the early third round which is where I have him here. Brooks is massive at around 340 pounds, but also fairly athletic. however after mulling the pick over I went with Jeff Allen out of Illinois who I think is a better fit for Shanan’s system. Perhaps they might also take a liking to a guy like Brandon Washington out of Miami. Allen played tackle in college and might be able to play tackle at the N.F.L. level, but at the very least he can win a starting job at guard.

Round 4: Coryell Judie, CB, Texas A & M

The Redskins added some talent to the secondary, but they needed a whole overhaul of talent and depth at cornerback so they could use another one here.  Judie is a guy who doesn’t get a lot of respect, but I think he’s got really good hips and good size/speed combo. He’s 6′ tall, which is nice. It’s possible a better value is here, maybe a Josh Norman, but this is good solid value for Judie. (Mocking the drafts’ 13th overall CB) and National Football Posts 13th overall CB as well.

Round 4: Via Oakland Raiders-Antonio Allen, S, South Carolina

Allen has a lot of ability, but hasn’t always put it together consistently on the football field. He doesn’t cover well or take perfect angles, but he can lay a punishing hit. The Safety class overall isn’t terrific. If the Redskins want a start now safety they’ll have to take on in the 3rd round and hope George Illoka is available.

Round 5: David Paulson, TE, Oregon

Chris Cooley has had a lot of trouble staying healthy and Fred Davis is one bad decision away from a long time suspension. Paulson looked like molasses playing with all the speedsters are Oregon, but he has soft hands and better than advertised speed. I think this is the earliest the Redskins would take a TE and don’t be honest they might not take on at all.

Round 6: TRADED

Round 7: Marcel Jones, T, Nebraska

The Redskins need to add talent at the tackle position. They are set at LT with Trent Williams and have okay depth at RT with Tyler Polombus who has started a fair amount of games in the N.F.L. Jones is not a big name, guy even though he played for a big time program. He has ideal size and is powerful enough to win consistently in the run game. A developmental OL prospect who has a shot to develop into a starter.

Donovan McNabb Trade:

I can’t find the compensation for this pick, because it was a conditional pick so I’ll assume it’s a mid round pick. If that is the case they could grab a developmental ILB like James Michael Johnson out of Nevada to eventually replace London Fletcher if he isn’t re-signed, which I still imagine will happen. It’s later, like a 6th rounder they could consider an ILB like Emanuel Acho.
