Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is doing his thing with the power he was given over personnel. After cleaning house of all players that either don’t believe in or fit his vision, he’s filling the house up with players that do. And today, he signed Miles Austin to a one-year deal for $2.3 million per Ian Rappoport via Twitter.

He can pick up another $300,000, bringing it up to $3 million with incentives. At this point in Austin’s career, this has to be nothing more than a signing to add depth. And it may even be a few years too late for that as he is has been plagued by injuries since posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010.

From 2011 to 2013, Austin was in and out of the lineup with chronic hamstring problems. Last year, Austin started 11 games and did well considering his situation with 47 catches for 568 yards and two touchdowns. However, he was put on injured reserve after suffering an injury to his kidney in a Week, 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Has he gotten past his hamstring issues?

How is his kidney these days?

How big of a role is he expected to play for the Eagles?

This is another move that makes you think, “We’ll see what his plan is when the season comes.”
