The running back position is back!

The readers of this article may be tired of the writer writting such a thing but its the truth. The reason why the position has been devalued in recent years is because no one special has played the position in college for a while. Not that winning a Heisman alone makes one special but a running back hasn’t won the award since 2009.

And he, Mark Ingram Jr., is the only running back to win the award since the turn of the century. But this year, it looks more like a running back is going to win the award every week. At one time it was a close, 3-man race between Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Alabama’s Derrick Henry.

But Fournette and Elliott had not-so special games down the stretch of the regular season. And Henry came down the stretch with big performances in conference games like a true thoroughbred. However, Henry did have to perform Saturday as the other two backs made their last-ditch efforts in big games.

Elliott rushed for 214 yards with two rushing touchdowns in a huge win over the Michigan Wolverines. In his big win against he Texas A&M Aggies, Fournett rushed for 159 yards and one TD. But Henry shut all that down with 271 yards and two touchdowns in a big win over the Auburn Tigers.

There are no quarterbacks, receivers, or defensive player looking too special this year so give the award to Henry already.

He’ll probably be the first running back off the board in the 2016 NFL Draft too.
