Despite some recent off-field trouble, Alabama’s Cam Robinson is still one of the top-rated 2017 NFL Draft prospects.

Cam Robinson has a ton of experience lining up against the high level of competition within the SEC. For example, he faced accomplished pass rushers such as Georgia’s Leonard Floyd and Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett last year.

Robinson has good size and length for the position. He features long enough arms to get his hands on the defender and control the action. His commitment to gaining inside hands and extending his arms is one of the keys to his success.

As a pass protector, he keeps a wide base and avoids wasted motion. His balance allows him to change direction and adjust to counter moves. Robinson has solid foot speed, but there are times where he struggles to protect the edge.

It appears that Alabama will look to protect Robinson when working in space by putting a tight end to help or avoiding five to seven step drops. Robinson is capable of holding up against speedy defenders, but this isn’t the strength of his game.

Another concern in pass protection is that Robinson tends to lunge at the defender which results in a lack of balance and missed blocks.

Robinson is a nasty run blocker who shows the ability to work in both a power attack or zone scheme. He routinely fires off the ball, rolls his hips and generates a good initial jolt.  His commitment to keeping his legs moving allows him to get a strong push off the line.

He is also quick enough off the snap to cross the defenders face and seal him from the play. Robinson’s heavy hands play an important role in his run blocking as it allows him to Velcro to the defender and control his movement.

Overall, Robinson has most of the traits evaluators look for in a franchise left tackle. The one area of concern is his foot speed which may keep him being considered an elite prospect. His off-field issues are also something teams will monitor.
