Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers is one of the most intriguing players in the 2017 NFL draft class.

Jabrill Peppers is the definition of versatility thanks to the fact he has seen time at cornerback, safety, linebacker, kick/punt returner and running back. He has shown the ability to play each of those positions at an above-average level.

Michigan intends on moving him to a hybrid-linebacker role for the upcoming season in hopes to get the most out of his ability. However, his film shows that Peppers looks like a natural fit at cornerback. This position change will be interesting to monitor as it could have a negative impact on his draft stock.

Peppers fits at cornerback thanks to his combination of quickness, balance and awareness. He features quick-twitch ability which allows him to click and close on the football. His speed allows him to turn and run with receivers as well as recover after a misread.

Michigan has mainly asked Peppers to play out of the slot or on the outside in man to man coverage. He does a great job limiting separation and making plays on the football. The one area he can improve on is how quickly he gets his head turned around.

Peppers’ physical style of play helps him match up well with bigger receivers and tight ends. He consistently does a good job shutting down the short passing game.

Against the run, Peppers doesn’t hesitate to attack the line of scrimmage. He uses his explosive burst to quickly get into the action. However, he needs to do a better job finishing plays and bringing down the ball carrier.

His struggles in this area combined with his lack of bulk makes it odd that Michigan sees him as a linebacker. The move adds to his versatility, but potentially moves him away from his best future position.

No matter where he lines up on defense Peppers will impact the game as a returner. He’s a game-changer with the ball in his hand featuring excellent vision, short area burst and an elite second gear. This is why he’ll also see plenty of action on offense this year.
